Timeshares raise lots of controversy – some timeshare owners are very happy with their purchase, enjoying every minute of their stay at the resort of choice, while others feel tricked into signing the contract and would do whatever it takes to get out of it. The truth is that there are lots honest, legitimate timeshare management companies, but the industry has scammers, too – there are not too many of them in Colorado, but even so, you need to be prepared for scams before you buy into timeshare. Here are the most common tricks:

  • Aggressive marketing techniques – timeshares are usually pitched in presentations, by experienced, professional and convincing agents who know how to make timeshare purchase attractive and how to push interested participants into signing the timeshare contract on the spot. To avoid falling into this trap, don’t sign the contract on the spot, take your time to weigh the pros and cons of the purchase, no matter how attractive the presented property is.  This step will keep you from having to ask yourself how do I sell my timeshare property quickly;
  • The resale scam – this trick concerns those who want to sell their timeshare. The owner is contacted by a very convincing sales person who offers to help the owner sell the property with a huge margin in return of a commission of a few hundred or a few thousand dollars, depending on the type and size of the property. If the owner pays the upfront fee, the sales person disappears and it soon turns out that the company they represented never existed.
