Are Timeshare Scams Common in Arizona?

Beautiful Arizona

Timeshares are usually presented by talented and professional sales people who make the purchase attractive, while allowing very little time for their potential buyers to make the purchase decision. Besides aggressive marketing techniques, there are lots of other scams that are practiced in the timeshare business and even though none of them are too frequent in Arizona, you, as an interested buyer of a timeshare property, need to know about them to be able to avoid them. Here are the most common scams:

  • Buying from a company that does not exist – beware of companies that invite you to a presentation held in a hotel or in a restaurant and do not provide company details, such as their registered address and phone number, they are likely to be scammers who will run away with the down payment for the timeshares they have sold, or you may be looking for a licensed timeshare attorney Phoenix area;
  • Timeshare resale scams – these scams are geared towards those who already own a timeshare and they involve unsolicited phone calls or emails in which the timeshare owner receives an offer to sell the property with huge profit. To be able to benefit from the offer, the owner has to pay an upfront fee of a few hundred dollars (or a few thousand dollars, in the case of high-end properties or a very high profit promised), but once the payment is made, the contact person disappears and no sale takes place.
